How to make Dalia Upma
Ingredients:
1 Bowl of dalia (broken wheat)
1/2 bowl of carrot finely chopped
1 medium sized tomato finely chopped
1 medium sized onion finely chopped
1/2 bowl of green peas
1/4 tsp of haldi (tumeric powder)
1 tsp of dhaniya powder (Coriander powder)
Salt to taste
1/2 tsp of red chilli powder
1/2 tsp of mustard seeds
3 tbsp of vegetable oil
2-1/2 bowl of water 1 inch pieces if ginger
2 green chillies finely chopped
8-10 curry leaves
Few coriader leaves, finely chopped
Method :
1. Heat the kadai/deep frying pan. Heat 3 tbsp oil.
2. Add the mustard seeds.
3. Add 1 inch piece of ginger finely chopped.
3. Add the 2 green chillies finely chopped.
4. Add -10 curry leaves.
5. Add the finely chopped onions and stir well.
6. Once the onions turn translucent, add the chopped.
7. Add the green peas.
8. Add the chopped potatoes and stir well.
9. Add 1/4 tsp turmeric powder.
10. Add 1/2 tsp of red chilli powder.
11. Add 1 tsp of dhaniya powder (coriader powdrer)
12. some salt for the vegetable stir well.
13. Add the chopped tomatoes.
14. Stir well for a few minutes.
15. Add the dalia (broken wheat).
16. Mix it well with the vegetables.
17. Boil 2- 1/2 bowls of water.
18. Add the boiling water into yhe kadai/deep frying pan.
19. Add salt as per taste for daliya.
20. Add few coriander leaves and mix weell.
Tips :
1. Ratio ofdalia to water should always be 1:2-1/2.
2. Additing boil water helps the vegetables to cook quicker and doesn't let the dalia get sticky.
3. Once the water is completely absorbed cover the kadai/deep frying fry with a lid and let it cook for 3-4 min., on a low flame.
